Double Play: Boulevard Brewing Co. and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Team Up for Limited-Edition ‘Salute to the Monarchs’ Belgian-Style Tripel

Report

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 9, 2024) – Boulevard Brewing Co. and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum announce a new Belgian-Style Tripel, Salute to the Monarchs. The limited release, from the Smokestack Series, commemorates the 1924 Kansas City Monarchs, Kansas City’s first champions, and Boulevard’s throwing a party to celebrate.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is leading a yearlong celebration of the historic first Negro Leagues World Series, in which the Kansas City Monarchs reigned supreme through a 10-game series. The collaboration with Boulevard Brewing Co. is named Salute to the Monarchs as an ode to Kansas City’s original champs. In a city known for its champions, the beer honors Kansas City’s first — a title the 1924 Monarchs claimed 100 years ago.

“Beer and baseball are a destined match. This was an opportunity for us to honor local legends and the museum’s celebration of this incredible team,” said Ali Bush, Boulevard Brewing Co. vice president of marketing. “We’re excited to support the museum with a commemorative beer that helps tell their story.”

“We are thrilled to team with Boulevard Brewing Co. on another exciting product launch in support of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and to salute the winning spirit of the Kansas City Monarchs,” said Bob Kendrick, NLBM president. “Sports titles have long been a part of Kansas City’s greatness and we’re proud that the Monarchs began that championship legacy. This commemorative beer is the opportunity to raise a glass and say, ‘Cheers to KC’s original champs!’’

Releasing prominent fruity esters, sweet bready malt and an effervescent mouthfeel, the Belgian-style tripel ale has an ABV of 9.2% and comes in 12-oz. bottle four-packs. Salute to the Monarchs begins hitting shelves today and will be available in Kansas City and select surrounding markets while supplies last. Boulevard will host a Salute to the Monarchs Beer Release and Happy Hour on Thursday, September 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the Tours & Rec Center Tasting Room. Locals can purchase tickets here. Tickets are available at $10 and include a 5-oz. pour of the commemorative beer, entertainment, and a toast from president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Bob Kendrick. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the museum.
