Beyond the Glass: Alta Colina Reintroduces its Hidden Gem Vineyard Experiences for the Holiday Season and Throughout 2027

Report

PASO ROBLES, Calif., Nov. 5, 2026 — Beyond the tasting room and over the hill, another side of Alta Colina Vineyard & Winery awaits. This fall and into 2027, the family-owned, Paso Robles winery invites guests to discover three distinctive on-site experiences: the Summit Vineyard Tasting, the Trailer Pond campground (available mid-March - Thanksgiving), and the Cellar Door Tasting. Each offers a different way to enjoy the landscape, connect with companions, and share wine beyond the classic tasting room visit with the laid-back, but knowledgeable hospitality that makes Alta Colina unique.

Summit Vineyard Tasting: A Toast to the View

For those ready to venture beyond the tasting room, the Summit Vineyard Tasting offers a private, reservation-based experience at Alta Colina’s Sundowner Deck. The deck is perched in a Syrah block known as Toasted Slope, almost 1,800 feet above sea level - a secret tasting location guests would never expect starting from the tasting room at the base of the estate.

The journey is part of the experience. Hop into the weathered cellar truck and traverse a picturesque, mile-long dirt road that winds up to the 500-foot mountain summit. The path leads through 60 acres of wild oak forest through a gate that gives way to 40 acres of regenerative vineyard. As the landscape opens up, guests are greeted by sweeping views of the Paso Robles countryside and a fresh perspective on the estate. The final stop is the Sundowner Deck for a privately hosted tasting among sprawling vistas.

The Sundowner Deck itself began with a simple idea: an almost-flat patch of dirt cleared for a bench so winery owner Bob could work on his crossword puzzle with a view and a breeze. That humble clearing evolved into a favorite spot for sharing Alta Colina wines against a spectacular vineyard backdrop.

The Summit Vineyard Tasting is $70 per person with up to two Summit Tastings included for Alta Colina wine club members throughout the year.  Members may book additional tastings for $35 per person. The fee is also waived for guests who join the wine club and take their first club shipment home that day.

Trailer Pond: Where a Wednesday Tradition Became a Wine Country Escape

Downhill from the Sundowner Deck, where two vineyard-covered hills meet, sits The Trailer Pond, a collection of five refurbished boutique vintage trailers set around a private pond in Alta Colina’s tucked-away vineyards. The rustic, retro trailer retreat is rooted in starry evenings, good company, and an open bottle of wine.

The tradition began with informal Wednesday gatherings: a grill, a folding table, friends, and an evening that stretched well past sunset. There was no grand plan to create a destination. It was simply a place the Alta Colina family loved spending time.

Today, the Trailer Pond carries that spirit forward, offering guests a distinctive way to enjoy the property beyond the tasting room, either with loved ones or for a quiet solo getaway. It’s an invitation to settle directly into the landscape, share a bottle, and embrace the slower pace of wine country. This is a true camping experience (shared bathroom, no temperature control) with what the team describes as “the most comfortable mattresses and an unbeatable setting.”

Alta Colina wine club members receive 25% off their Trailer Pond stay, making it an inviting option for those looking to turn a Paso Robles wine tasting into a longer fall getaway. The trailers can be booked individually or as a group. The 2027 camping season opens mid-March and runs through mid-November.  Book early for the best availability.

Taste Behind the Cellar Door

For those who wish to dive deeper into the “geekier” side of wine, Alta Colina’s Cellar Door Tasting offers a private, focused exploration of current releases in the heart of the cellar. Surrounded by younger-vintage wines aging in barrel, guests have the opportunity to taste, learn, and ask questions in an intimate setting that brings them closer to the winemaking process.

Designed for curious wine lovers, the approximately 75-minute experience accommodates groups of up to six people and encourages guests to probe further into the winemaking process, from what’s aging in barrel to the character of the current releases.

The Cellar Door Tasting is $40 per person and available seasonally depending on harvest times with reservations required. Alta Colina wine club membership includes two Cellar Door Tastings per year, each for up to six people. Members may book additional tastings throughout the year for $20 per person.

Drop By Anytime: Casual Indoor and Outdoor Tastings

Although the team invites guests to explore the immersive experiences on the estate, visitors to Alta Colina are always welcome to enjoy a classic indoor or outdoor tasting at the tasting room, reservations recommended, or by-chance walk-ins always welcome. Located right off Adelaida road, the tasting room offers an accessible, guided flight of four to five, highly rated, estate-grown Rhône wines. Guests can also rally friends and enjoy an unhosted outdoor Park and Sip Picnic Experience—purchase a bottle or glass, bring a picnic or buy a cheese plate from the tasting room and take in the oak-covered patio at any pace.

Accidentally Elevated, Intentionally Personal

While the Summit Vineyard Tasting, The Trailer Pond escape, and Cellar Door Tasting each offer a distinct experience, they share a common thread: an experience beyond the standard tasting, rooted in wine, place, and time together. True to Alta Colina’s ethos of casual yet polished hospitality, everyone at every level of wine knowledge is invited to experience the Adelaida Estate.

At Alta Colina, these on-site experiences have often emerged organically, from a quiet spot to work on a crossword to impromptu gatherings by the pond. Everyday moments have grown into opportunities for guests to experience the estate in a more personal way, connected to Alta Colina’s family roots.

This year, visitors can gather loved ones and discover the hidden views of the hillside, stay a little longer in a vineyard retreat, dive deeper into wine’s journey from barrel to bottle, or enjoy a simple tasting with good company. Each experience offers a peek into Alta Colina’s world and a reminder that wine country is about more than what’s in the glass — it’s about the people, places, and stories that come with the pour.
